Yang Mian Quan is the original name of the KUNG FU fighting style of the Guang Fu Yang Family Tai Chi fame. This method was only handed down to a few select family members and leading disciples over the past generations. Its origin is directly linked back to the Taoist immortal, Zhang San Feng, resident of Wudong Mountain in the 13th century. The name Tai Chi was originally coined by the Scholar, Weng Tong He, after watching Yang Lu Chan perform in the imperial palace, Beijing. It is said that Yang Lu Chan moved and fought in accordance with Yin and Yang theory, gaining the status of Wu De, or peerless in combat and etiquette. Before this period, Yang Lu Chan’s fighting art was known as Mian Quan or Yang Mian Quan. Down through the ages, the art was also described as Soft Continuous Fist and Cotton Boxing.
Yang Lu Chan’s fighting system became famous for using softness to overcome hardness, incorporating Taoist Nei Gong theory and coordinated martial movements coupled with the expression of Fa Jin, “whole body connected force” to throw the opponent many metres away in a combat situation.
