Yang Mian Quan is the original KUNG FU fighting style of the Guang Fu Yang Family. This method has been handed down over the generations. Its origin is directly linked to the Taoist immortal, Zhang San Feng, from Wudong Mountain in the 13th century. The name Tai Chi was given to the Art by Scholar Weng Tonghe after watching Yang Lu Chan perform. Before this period Tai Chi was Called Mian Quan or Yang Mian Quan. Down through the ages the art has been described as Soft Continuous Fist, Cotton Boxing and even Steel Wrapped in Cotton.
This unique fighting system is famous for using softness to overcome hardness, incorporating Taoist Nei Gong coupled with physical movements and the expression of Fa Jīn (whole body connected force) to throw the opponent many metres away in a combat situation.
Our program teaches the student whole body coordinated core-based movement sets that can be performed fast or slow, hard or soft. These sets are aimed at developing and unifying both the body and mind. There are numerous partner strength building and fighting sets as well as classical Tai Chi Push Hands, traditional form work and Nei Gong.
